The problem of the organization of the hospital staff is one of wide-spread interest, if we are to judge by the number of articles written on the subject. We propose to give a brief discussion of the existing systems, with a statement of the attempt which has been made at the Massachusetts General Hospital to solve this problem. The usual form of staff organization in the United States is that called "rotating." Under this system the beds in the hospital are divided into a certain number of services, to each of which several physicians or surgeons are allotted. One member of the staff of each service has charge of its patients for a given period, usually three or four months, when he is succeeded by another member of the staff who has charge for a like period.
