SOME TYPES OF URETERAL OBSTRUCTION IN WOMEN

Abstract

The type of ureteral obstruction considered in this paper is that due to lesions in the ureter itself, and while tuberculous conditions fall in this category, they are, for the sake of brevity, omitted.

The interest for such a study was furnished by the discovery of a number of cases, most of which had been unrecognized and treated for other conditions. I feel confident that I have overlooked a number of these, for they presented the same symptoms as those in which I have determined beyond doubt the presence of ureteral obstruction. The discovery of the first case was more or less accidental, and it so impressed me that I have been on the lookout since and have encountered enough others to make me think it a frequent condition in women.
