In the seventh German edition from which the present American edition is translated, a change has been made by the introduction of a chapter on physical chemistry in biology written by Prof. S. G. Hedin of Upsala. This has necessitated the omission of a chapter of the earlier editions, with a redistribution of the matter contained in it. As the author states, the numerous publications in physiologic chemistry which have appeared since the publication of the sixth edition have necessitated a thorough revision and rewritting of all the chapters. The book is in consequence somewhat enlarged. As heretofore, it constitutes a complete and thoroughly standard work on this important subject.
