Members of the Section and Guests: I am deeply sensible of the honor of the responsibility you have conferred upon me in selecting me to preside over the session of a body such as this, and in thanking you most sincerely, I wish also to thank you for having selected an aid so proficient as our secretary, Dr. Bonifield. Largely to his efforts is due a program which would do credit to any association of specialists in the world of medicine, and in spite of the fact that the work of your secretary is particularly difficult. Since we have no organization as a Section, and no connected existence beyond these annual meetings, there is lacking the stimulus of historical association. Beyond the papers and other scientific contributions which are read in session and then published only in part and scatteringly in The Journal, the record of our proceedings is lost
