New guidelines released last month by the World Health Organization (WHO) give advice on the prevention of tuberculosis (TB) in people living with HIV/AIDS. The document provides updates and clarifications of the 1998 policy based on new scientific evidence (http://tinyurl.com/2cc4rp9).
Individuals with HIV are more vulnerable to infection with TB because of their weakened immune systems. Of the almost 2 million deaths caused by AIDS each year, about 25% are associated with TB.
