AMA Establishes Department of Biostatistics
A resource center for statistical data pertaining to health matters has been established by the American Medical Association with the creation of a new Department of Biostatistics.The department, which is directed by Stanley S. Schor, PhD, will serve as a clearing house for all research studies in the health field, wherever such studies are made. Through its work in collecting and evaluating statistical data, the department will expand the AMA's liaison with governmental and other agencies engaged in health studies.Within the AMA, the department will act in an advisory capacity to all other departments needing statistical assistance. It will coordinate research projects to avoid duplication, provide statistical advice on survey design, tabulation of data and analysis of results, and will check the validity of conclusions drawn.The
