A New Oral DiureticTriamterene (Dyrenium)

JAMA. 1965;192(10):853-854. doi:10.1001/jama.1965.03080230059015
Abstract

Triamterene is a new diuretic for oral administration that is chemically unrelated to other available agents. It increases the excretion of sodium, chloride, and bicarbonate, while the excretion of potassium is either decreased or not affected. The primary use of triamterene is as an adjunct to the thiazide diuretics. No serious untoward effects have been associated with its use.
