To the Editor:—
The article on Christian Fenger which appeared in the June 21 issue (192:1091, 1965) relates that Fenger went to Alexandria in 1875 where he witnessed the première of Verdi's Aida in honor of the coming of Napoleon III.Napoleon was deposed in 1871 and kept a prisoner of war in a castle near Kassel, Germany. I don't think he was able to witness any public function after his deposition. The world's great men have not commonly been great scholars, nor its great scholars great men.
