The section on medical school expenditures is prepared annually by the Association of American Medical Colleges. Dr. Lee Powers, Associate Director of the AAMC, and Mr. A. J. Carroll, Assistant Director, Division of Operational Studies, have prepared the report from financial data submitted by the medical schools in response to the joint questionnaire.
Medical schools have prepared financial data for this and other annual AAMC-AMA financial reports according to specifications designed to offset a lack of uniformity in their financial statements that individual schools customarily prepare for their own use. The individual statements do not reflect the facts required for this report and comparison of the costs among various schools would be misleading and dangerous.
Formats for the 1963-1964 report and the questionnaire that produced information for it are fundamentally the same as they have been for each year since 1958-1959. This makes the data presented for 1958-1959, 1963-1964, and
