Abstract

A new surgical approach to the treatment of hepatosplenic schistosomiasis was used in three patients, with highly encouraging early results. Large numbers of adult schistosomes were removed from the portal blood by extracorporeal filtration following mobilization of the worms from the venules of the intestinal tract with a single dose of antimony potassium tartrate.
