In the Therapeutic Number, published July 27, 1963, the communication submitted by the Council on Drugs titled "The Use and Abuse of the Broad Spectrum Antibiotics" by Drs. Edwin M. Ory and Ellard M. Yow, of Houston, indicated that the recommended dosage for chloramphenicol palmitate (p 278) is 100 to 200 mg/kg of body weight per day, given at 6- or 8-hour intervals. Dr. Yow writes, "In view of the evidence of better adsorption of recent preparations of the palmitate ester of chloramphenicol (Chloromycetin Palmitate) the current recommended dosage is 50 to 100 mg/kg/day."
