In the Resident Forum column entitled "Providing Medical Care With Reduced
Numbers of Residents," published in the September 3, 1997, issue of THE JOURNAL
(1997;278:698n), a line in the second sentence in the second paragraph was
omitted. The sentence should have read, "From 1988 to 1996, the number of
IMGs in residency programs increased from 12 000 to 26 000,
while graduates of US medical schools increased from 71 000 to 77 000."
