Blue glyphs snake
Over belly’s bulge:

His 2T Brady T-shirt
Pulled up, pen in fist,

My son looks at me,
Serious, aghast, and alone.

He’s lost like Lope de Aguirre
In our living room—

Civilization, one discovers,
Survives on repetition:

The writing on his skin
(Mene mene tekel upharsin)

Is daddy arrowed daily
Red, black and blue

By the insolent
Insulin pen.
