In these two volumes of 1,244 pages the author has tried to present a comprehensive work on diseases of the vertebral column encompassing clinical examination and roentgen technic, interpretation and treatment. It is apparent that a vast amount of clinical material has been combed to present what is in effect an excellent radiologic treatise. If one were to evaluate the book as such it could be considered a most comprehensive and well illustrated work on the subject. Its value from this standpoint is enhanced by the clinical introduction to each chapter and the brief discussion of treatment. However, the orthopedic surgeon and student will find it notably deficient as to therapeutic procedures. This phase is covered in a brief and cursory manner. The illustrations are almost entirely devoted to roentgenograms and outline drawings illustrative of the roentgenographic pathologic changes.
