Abstract

Studies on the Rheumatoid and Related Serum Factors

II. Relation of Anti-Human and Anti-Rabbit Gamma Globulin Factors in Rheumatoid Arthritis Serums  Felix Milgrom, M.D., Ernest Witebsky, M.D., Robert Goldstein, and Ulana Loza, M.D., BuffaloTHE SEROLOGY of rheumatoid arthritis is attracting increasing attention. Little doubt remains that the laboratory tests based on detecting the rheumatoid factor constitute helpful diagnostic tools. Clinical evaluation of these tests, as well as serological and physicochemical properties of the rheumatoid factor, have been subjects of several reviews.1-5 Summarizing the data available, one may say that this factor has serological properties of an antibody against gamma globulin of human and rabbit origin. The question arose as to whether the same molecule of the rheumatoid factor could combine with human and rabbit gamma globulin, or whether there exist different molecules for each of these gamma globulins.Lospalluto and Ziff6 separated the rheumatoid factor by cation
