Abstract

This entirely rewritten second edition provides the reader with an up-to-date, authoritative, readable text for the field of oncology as seen in pediatrics. The second edition has eight contributors, which provides indepth coverage for all important clinical aspects of pediatric oncology.

The first eight chapters are devoted to the important broad-based concepts of malignancy, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, psychological impact, and epidemiology. These chapters are important but are frequently skipped by readers who simply look up a particular malignant neoplasm in the index and focus all of their attention there. The chapter dealing with oncological emergencies is a complete litany of what can and does happen even during successful therapy. This should be read by all who have a child with a malignant neoplasm in their practice. The brief and well-written chapter dealing with dental problems should not be overlooked.
