An error occurred in the LETTERS section of the Dec 9, 1983, issue of The Journal (1983;250:3048). In the letter to the editor entitled "Brain Injury, Psychiatric Sequelae, and Surgical Intervention in S. Weir Mitchell's Westways," the third sentence of the second paragraph should have read as follows: "Thereafter, he deteriorates psychologically with intermittent insomnia, confusion, failing memory, headaches, irritability, depression or `unnatural gaiety,' and explosive anger or emotional withdrawal, with flat affect and disinterest, poor judgment, and brief episodes of unconsciousness."
