In Reply We appreciate the thoughtful letter by Zemplenyi and Wei about our article.¹ They propose our analysis should have used risk differences (RDs) instead of odds ratios (ORs) for pooled estimates. The appropriate summary statistic for meta-analysis has been highly debated in the literature.² However, per Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines, use of any of 3 summary statistics (ie, OR, risk ratio [RR], or RD) is appropriate for binary outcomes.³
