After the governor of Illinois announced the shelter-in-place order because of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), I recall my dad asking me how we would make his physician appointments. As fate would have it, his follow-up appointments were not for 2 months and I reassured him that we would hopefully return to normal by then and he would visit his physicians like usual.
These appointments had always been a treat for my dad, no matter what the physician recommended or what news he delivered. The day of each visit, my dad always took a long shower, put on his best clothes, and never forgot his cologne. He once even asked me if his shoes were polished enough. One would think my dad was going out to a fancy dinner, but in reality, he was seeing his internist or cardiologist.
