To the Editor Sampson et al1 have suggested that their new equation is more accurate than all other currently available equations for the calculation of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels and is ready for immediate implementation. For the derivation of the equation, they used LDL-C values from the β-quantification method generated over a period of 2 decades. In our opinion, the advantage of this equation is that it will reduce the number of samples reflexed to direct LDL-C measurement. Further, addressing the following points will improve the accuracy of the new equation.
