Histopathologic examination revealed a mild middermal perivascular and interstitial infiltrate of lymphocytes, histiocytes, and multinucleated giant cells (Figure 2). Some of the multinucleated giant cells contained engulfed elastic fibers. An elastic tissue stain (Verhoeff–van Gieson) demonstrated a loss of elastic fibers in the middermis, with preservation of normal elastic tissue in the papillary dermis and the deep reticular dermis (Figure 3).
