THE ANNUAL Trainee Award is given to the dermatology resident or fellow who was the first author for the most meritorious original research article published in the ARCHIVES of a given year. The award recipient is given a certificate of commendation, $100, and a copy of One Hundred Years of JAMA Landmark Articles.
Previously, nominees linked to articles published through December of a given year were considered. However, starting in 1997, we have redefined the qualifying year to end in October to allow adequate time for judging, since the award is formally presented at the colloquium of residents held during the annual meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology in February or March. Thus, nominees for the 1998 award will include first author trainees of articles published in November 1997 through October 1998.
