A genetic predisposition to pemphigus has been demonstrated; however, familial cases are rare and other factors may be necessary to develop the disease. Previous reports of a few cases suggest that the onset of pemphigus might be triggered by psychological stresses.1 To investigate this hypothesis, we explored stressful life events and personality disorders in 13 consecutive subjects with pemphigus.
