Medline is a guide to effective searching, as its title suggests. The book is short (85 pages of text with 2 appendices and a glossary of the Medical Subject Headings [MESH] terms used in the text). It consists of 5 chapters: (1) a history of MEDLINE and how it works; (2) search engines and the principles of searching; (3) MESH heading searching; (4) strategies for limiting searches; and (5) practical tips. The author has clearly developed effective search strategies and is a strong advocate for MEDLINE.
