Results of the following laboratory tests were normal or negative: complete blood cell count, blood chemistry studies, urinalysis, and determination of aminotransferases, CH50, cancer antigen 125, carcinoembryonic antigen, and antibodies to Ro, La, double-stranded DNA, Sm, ribonucleoprotein, and Jo-1. Abnormal laboratory values included an erythrocyte sedimentation rate of 62 mm/h (reference value, <25 mm/h), a creatine kinase level of 320 IU/L (reference value, <150 IU/L), an aldolase level of 6.2 IU/L (reference range, 1.0-3.5 IU/L), a lactate dehydrogenase level of 302 IU/L (reference range, 122-220 IU/L), and antinuclear antibody titers of 1:320 (reference value, <1:40) with a fine-speckled pattern.
