THE PRESENTATION of the 17th World Congress of Dermatology in Sydney in 1997 was a milestone for dermatology in Australia, but inevitably as the enthusiasm died down, Australian dermatology has been forced to take stock with the onset of the new millennium. Once again, Sydney will be in the spotlight with the 2000 Summer Olympic Games in September. For non–sports lovers who live in Sydney this will be a major disruption to their lifestyle, but for sports lovers, of course, this will represent a unique opportunity to have a major event in their own backyard, as occurred for the dermatological community in 1997.
