I would like to respond to Dr Coldiron's letter. The conclusions we drew in our recently published article, "Discordancy Between Clinical Predictions vs Lymphoscintigraphic and Intraoperative Mapping of Sentinel Lymph Node Drainage of Primary Melanoma,"1 are valid because the lymphatic drainage system for primary malignant melanoma cannot be reliably predicted by clinical criteria, according to the findings of Sappey's study.2 This conclusion has been corroborated by the results of other studies.3,4
