The letter of Robert Gniadecki, MD, PhD, DSc, like dermatology itself, suffers from a failure to define words precisely. In his first sentence, Dr Gniadecki quotes me correctly as having written that dermatology needs a dictionary in which terms will be "defined in lucid fashion," yet he concludes his piece by stating that by providing "rigid, obligatory definitions," a dictionary such as the one I propose will be an impediment to progress in dermatology. According to the Oxford English Dictionary,1 lucid means "marked by clearness of reasoning, expression, or arrangement; easily intelligible." Lucid does not denote or connote either "rigid" or "obligatory."
