Microscopic examination of the biopsy specimen revealed dermal nests of basaloid cells with mild cytologic atypia lying within pools of pale-staining mucin. The pools were separated into compartmentlike areas by fibrocollagenous septa. Some cells showed ductal lumen differentiation. Based on these microscopic findings, the diagnosis of mucinous eccrine adenocarcinoma was made. The tumor was thought to be primary to the skin because of the mild cytologic atypia and the unremarkable results of the review of systems and laboratory studies.
