Represented by the Greek letter φ, the golden ratio is characterized as an irrational number, approximately equal to 1.61803.1 It is often expressed through the division of a line into 2 parts, so that the proportion of the entire line to its longer part is equivalent to the ratio of the longer part to the shorter part.1,2 The Fibonacci sequence is another tool that may be used to derive the golden ratio. As the sequence is taken out to infinity, each integer may be divided by the preceding integer, yielding the same proportion.3
