To the Editor We read with great interest the Viewpoint by Chen and Shinkai1 on rethinking the paradigm by which dermatology applicants are selected. Dermatology is considered one of the least diverse specialties,2 and to address this lack of diversity in our specialty, Chen and Shinkai offer 6 outstanding recommendations. However, we believe that 1 additional imperative consideration should have been addressed—the role of the research fellowship and its implications for dermatology resident selection.
