To the Editor We read with interest the study by Jeon et al1 on the use of pulsed-dye laser to treat port-wine stain in infants without the need for general anesthesia. The editorial by Mathes and Frieden2 nicely summarizes the risks of untreated pain on subsequent behavior, even for relatively minor procedures such as vaccination. The shared decision-making vision presented by Mathes and Frieden is an essential part of daily practice, grounded in a careful consideration of risks, benefits, and alternatives based on the available evidence.
