Improved Medical Photography: Key Tips for Creating Images of Lasting Value

Clinical images hold a special place in the work of dermatologists and are important for serial evaluation, ongoing continuity of care, publication, and teaching.1 Images taken by patients or their families may also capture progression of skin disease.2,3 In today’s health care environment, proper documentation, including consistent and high-quality photography, is essential.4,5 Many facilities have medical personnel with limited photography skills serving as photographers; review of their images reveals common mistakes. This Editorial highlights basic photography tips that can easily be incorporated into any practice setting. With these tips, clinical staff can achieve more informative and high-quality patient images.
