The biopsy specimen demonstrated a moderately dense superficial and deep perivascular and perineural lymphocytic and histiocytic infiltrate. Focal, nonnecrotizing granuloma formations were present. The Ziehl-Neelsen stain was negative for acid-fast bacilli.
