Are Television Stations and Weather Pages Still Reporting the UV Index? A National Media Follow-up Study

The UV Index was introduced in the United States in 1994.Because the most recent evaluation of the media’s reporting of the UV Index was completed almost 10 years ago,¹ we conducted a follow-up study to measure current levels of television and newspaper weather page reporting of the UV Index and to compare these levels with those found in 1995. Such evaluations are particularly relevant in light of the May 2004 US launch of the World Health Organization’s Global Solar UV Index, which aims to standardize UV Index reporting and the related public health messages worldwide.
