The possible relationship between oral lichen planus (OLP) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection has been studied rather extensively, but the results are rather discrepant and controversial.1-4 The objectives of the present study were to determine the possible relationship between OLP and HCV in the Netherlands and to investigate whether screening for anti-HCV antibodies and liver enzyme levels is necessary in patients with OLP. Moreover, attempts were made to clarify the discrepant results reported in the literature on the association of OLP with HCV.
