Déjà vu is the feeling I had on reading “Academia Is the Life for Me, I’m Sure”!1 Way back in that late 1960s, when I was applying for a dermatology residency, the conventional wisdom was that all the good programs were looking for academicians. So you did a research project in medical school and then told the interviewers that you were interested in a career in academic medicine. That was how the game was played.
