Zaias N, Rebell G. Successful treatment of Trichophyton rubrum nail bed (distal subungual) onychomycosis. Arch Dermatol. 2004;140(6):691-695

The article by Zaias and Rebell describes an open-label, prospective, nonrandomized study evaluating pulse dosing with terbinafine at different intervals for the treatment of distal subungual onychomycosis. The authors postulate that terbinafine pulsed over 12 months would provide treatment until the entire mycotic portion of the nail is replaced by normal nail.
