Microscopic examination showed spindled cells with hyperchromatic nuclei and clear cytoplasm arranged as intersecting fascicles within the dermis and subcutaneous tissue. Rare multinucleated giant cells were also present in the biopsy section. Immunostaining was performed and was positive for S-100 protein but negative for factor XIIIa, CD34, smooth muscle actin, and muscle-specific actin. Fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) for the EWSR-1 gene rearrangement was performed, and the test result was positive.
