An Erythematous Nodule on the Vulva

Arch Dermatol. 1999;135(2):203-a-208. doi:10-1001/pubs.Arch Dermatol.-ISSN-0003-987x-135-2-dof0299

Histologic examination revealed intraepidermal vesicles containing acantholytic cells and ulceration. There was ballooning degeneration of keratinocytes. Also, multinucleated epithelial giant cells and necrotic keratinocytes were observed. The nuclei of altered keratinocytes were steel gray and showed margination of nucleoplasm (Figure 2). There was a dense, deep, and diffusely extending infiltrate consisting of lymphocytes, histiocytes, neutrophils, and plasma cells in the dermis.
