This unique and spectacular volume is a compilation text that is a counterpart to a Spanish version that was published some years ago. The bulk of the work was written by Francisco Camacho and William Montagna, the editors and world experts on the hair follicle in health and disease, but contributions by many of the best-known investigators in hair research are present in the book. The text is separated into several major sections including physiology of the hair follicle, diagnosis in trichology, historical and social influences of hair, hair color considerations, hair shaft dysplasias, hy pertrichosis, hirsutism, androgenetic alopecia and hormonal influence on hair loss, anagenic and telogenic effluvia, alopecias due to external factors, alopecias in systemic disease, cicatricial alopecias, surgical treatment of alopecias, cosmetic care of hairy areas, and other diseases of the follicle. There are chapters within each subsection that discuss pathogenesis, routine and specialized histology, and available treatment. Ample photographs, tables, and figures are strategically placed throughout the text for explanation.
