The lesional biopsy specimen showed a dense dermal lymphohistiocytic infiltrate with many plasma cells (Figure 2 and Figure 3). A Steiner stain showed thin linear and convoluted forms adjacent to a blood vessel that were consistent with the spirochetes that are seen in syphilis (Figure 4).
