We are delighted that so many different groups from North America and Europe agree with our conclusions that a randomized trial would be desirable to assess the efficacy of photopheresis in CTCL.1 Unfortunately, our recent efforts to establish an international trial have been unsuccessful. Our intention was to report our experience of photopheresis in a large series of patients with SS in which the diagnosis has been supported by molecular analysis of T-cell receptor genes. We have also compared the response data and median survival figures in this group with those results in patients for whom photopheresis was not available.
