This book is a practical reference tool for the clinical dermatologist. Unlike other phototherapy textbooks, this one focuses strictly on therapeutics without discussions of photobiology, photophysics, or photodermatoses. The manual is organized into 5 general sections: patient instructions and protocols, consent forms, educational handouts, treatment management forms, and appendices.
The first and most comprehensive part of the book is presented as a compendium of protocols for various photoresponsive dermatoses. The specific phototherapy protocols are written in outline form, yet are thorough and detailed. They are based on treatments used at Vanderbilt Phototherapy Treatment Center, Nashville, Tenn, and the Wake Forest Medical Center, Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Winston-Salem, NC. The protocols are tailored for specific diseases including psoriasis, vitiligo, atopic dermatitis, pruritus, and cutaneous T-cell lymphoma.
