The characteristics and prevalence of adult acne have been defined,1-3 but the duration and course of treated acne in adult women have not been described. Treatment failures with systemic antibiotics occur in 80% of adult women, and recurrences after isotretinoin therapy occur in 15% to 30%.1,3 Understanding the course of acne in adult women will promote better treatments. We surveyed adult women with acne to determine persistence, treatment requirements, and exacerbating factors.
