Histologic evaluation showed a poorly circumscribed tumor composed of vascular and cellular components. There were multiple dilated vascular spaces, many of which contained organizing thrombi and phleboliths. The more cellular component consisted of a proliferation of spindle cells and a few admixed epithelioid cells with eosinophilic cytoplasm. Nuclear atypia was minimal and mitoses were few.
First described by Weiss and Enzinger1 in 1986, SCH was initially believed to represent a low-grade angiosarcoma. More recent studies, however, have provided evidence that SCH is a benign reactive vascular lesion that arises in association with abnormalities of local blood flow.2- 4
