Eruptive Xanthomas Associated With Protease Inhibitor Therapy

Arch Dermatol. 2004;140(5):617-618. doi:10.1001/archderm.140.5.617-b

In a recent report concerning eruptive xanthomas secondary to olanzapine use,1 the authors stated that, to their knowledge, there were no reports of eruptive xanthomas associated with retroviral protease inhibitors. We describe 2 cases of eruptive xanthomas in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)–positive patients that developed after initiation of ritonavir-based highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART).
