O. O'B., a 47 year old white woman, first noticed a small purple patch on the left malar area eleven years ago. Seven years ago another appeared just below the original lesion and a third on the right cheek. All three gradually increased in size, and four years ago the two on the left side of the face had grown together. These lesions have not been tender at any time. It was believed that this woman had erythema elevatum diutinum. Between December 1941 and April 1943 roentgen radiation was administered, without effect; a total of 2,200 r was given to the large lesion on the left cheek and 1,600 r to the smaller one on the right.Examination reveals a lesion on the left cheek which
