Abstract

Thirty years ago the first volume of Oscar Gans's work, "Histology of Diseases of the Skin," was published, which was followed about a year later by the second volume. In 1932 the equivalent of the third volume, under the title, "Die allgemeine pathologische Anatomie der Haut,'' appeared as a chapter in Volume 4, Part 3 of the ``Handbuch der Haut- und Geschlechtskrankheiten,'' edited by the late J. Jadassohn. These three volumes presented an exhaustive and comprehensive treatise on dermatohistopathology and have served over the years as "the Bible" for all interested in dermal pathology.

The reviewer is very glad that Oscar Gans, with his associate and co-author, Gerd-Klaus Steigleder, has published a second edition of the first volume. Moreover, there is the promise of a second volume to be forthcoming soon; this is particularly valuable news, especially since Gans's work has been out of print for many years. The great
