For many years I have instructed my patients who suffer from ingrown hairs of the bearded areas of the face and neck to brush briskly the affected areas at night with a stiff-bristled nail brush, brushing against the direction of the growth of the beard. I never manually epilate the ingrown hairs except those in granulomatous nodules. I also forbid the patient to epilate manually the ingrown hairs. This simple routine always solves this troublesome problem.
